Outage On Google’s Nest App

For the majority of Nest customers, the Google Home app has basically taken the place of and  replaced the Nest app; nevertheless, if any user still wants to use the Nest app to access older hardware, many users’ features have been disrupted by a widespread outage that occurred earlier today. This means that thousands of smart home customers are unable to operate their devices due to a severe server-side outage affecting the Google Nest app.

A “problem connecting to the Nest service” message or frozen screens appear when users try to load the interface.

The Nest app, which has been replaced by the Google Home app over the last five years. The main Google Home app currently supports the great majority of Nest devices. Google Home started allowing older Nest devices to be mass-imported as of late last year.

The Google Home app can now move your old Nest cameras, Nest x Yale Lock, and more all at once. However, anyone attempting to use the older Nest app may be having trouble at the present moment.

The Nest app is returning an error message that says, “There was a problem connecting to the Nest service,” according to reports from Nest users on Reddit threads and DownDetector. On the DownDetector page, it is seen that user complaints spiked heavily across North America and Europe. In a few minutes, try again. The problem has been present for a few hours and appears to be impacting both the iOS and Android apps.

As of the time of this report, the Nest status dashboard is not displaying any problems. However, right now the Nest status dashboard is mistakenly showing that everything is running smoothly. It is not certain yet if the issue with the Nest app has now been resolved or not and if its functionality is now operational.

Also the situation has been confirmed by Google, which also claims to be working on a solution and posting updates on Reddit.

Google has yet to officially confirm whether the issue is fully resolved, but this post will be updated as soon as new information becomes available.

Since the error originates on Google’s remote servers, affected users should avoid logging out of the mobile app due to authentication failures, use physical controls for Nest devices instead, and monitor crowdsourced platforms like StatusGator Nest Monitor for updates.
