The top 300 global fintechs of 2025 include five Nigerian companies: PalmPay, Moniepoint, OPay, Piggyvest, and Interswitch.
The list, which was released by CNBC in collaboration with Statista, honoured fintech companies worldwide according to key performance metrics like revenue, growth, and workforce size.
CNBC claims that Statista’s desk research and the publication’s editorial input were used to choose the 300 companies.
The payments category, which includes companies that offer payment services, gateways, and other goods that let people and businesses transact, included PalmPay, Moniepoint, OPay, and Interswitch.
Piggyvest is included in the Wealth Tech category, which includes businesses that provide digital goods for the wealth management ecosystem, such as platforms and tools for online trading, portfolio optimization, and investment management.
With the distribution by country, Nigeria has one of the lowest representations among the top fintechs by country of origin, with only four making the list, even though the country is home to more than 200 fintechs. It will be impossible to make a long list of everyone of the fintechs however because Moniepoint was incorporated in the UK, it is listed as a UK company.
With 126 of the firms’ headquarters situated in the largest economy in the world, the US topped the list of nations with the most fintechs. The US topped the 2025 list, followed by the UK (38) and Singapore (16), indicating a significant regional disparity in fintech representation.
PalmPay responded to the list, which was released on Wednesday, by saying that it is a reflection of its ongoing success as one of Africa’s top fintech platforms.
PalmPay offers financial services to more than 35 million registered consumers and recently reached 15 million daily transactions throughout its countries.
Our goal to create a more accessible financial system is powerfully affirmed by CNBC and Statista’s recognition of us as one of the top fintech businesses in the world.
Sofia Zab, citing its milestone of 15 million daily transactions and a user base of over 35 million, the founding chief marketing officer at PalmPay, stated, “As we expand PalmPay to more emerging markets, such as Tanzania and Bangladesh, our focus remains on closing financial access gaps for everyday consumers and businesses, while expanding the partner ecosystem that fuels our reach and impact.” PalmPay congratulated the company for being chosen.
“This acknowledgement from CNBC and Statista is a strong testament to our goal of creating a more inclusive financial system,” stated Sofia Zab, PalmPay’s founding chief marketing officer.
Tosin Eniolorunda, Group CEO of Moniepoint Inc., also responded in a statement, saying:
Being listed by CNBC as one of the leading fintech companies in the world is an honour. Moniepoint’s participation in this esteemed, authoritative list highlights our rise as a major force influencing the global fintech landscape and is a tribute to the team’s achievement and hard work.
In order to identify worldwide industry leaders in technology-driven financial services, CNBC launched its list of the top fintech businesses in the world in 2023.
The list, which comprises businesses from different markets and geographical areas, such as digital assets, payments, and banking solutions, emphasizes the vibrant and quickly changing fintech sector and provides readers, investors, and stakeholders with an extensive overview of the top companies in each of these areas.
