Qualcomm has launched a new mobile chipset in its Snapdragon 7 series SoCs. The new chip is called the Snapdragon 780G and is a powerful chipset that is set to change affordable smartphones by giving it more processing power. The new chip which is based on a 5nm process features specification like Sectra 570 triple ISP and 6th generation Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence Engine.

This chip promises to be a one-in-all kind of chip and is the first in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon line to feature a triple Image Signal Processor (ISP). What this mean is that it has the ability to capture images from three cameras at the same time. The ISP therefore delivers images captured by zoom, wide and ultra-lens simultaneously. Another feature to look out for in this chipset is the new low light architecture that will enable quality and professional pictures to be taken irrespective of the lighting conditions present. Users of this new chipset will be able to take pictures in HDR10+ and 4K HDR videos.

Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 780G has “2x improvement compared to its predecessor” as it is powered by the 6th generation Qualcomm AI Engine with the Qualcomm Hexagon 770 processor. The new chipset also comes with the second-generation Qualcomm Sensing Hub and integrates a dedicated low-power AI processor for audio processing.

The new Snapdragon 780G has an optimized Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF System with peak download speeds of 3.3Gbps on sub-6 GHz frequencies, according to a blogpost by GadgetsNow. The new Snapdragon 780G also features the premium WiFi 6 and Bluetooth audio features offered on Snapdragon 888 as well as the new Snapdragon sound technology.

The Snapdragon 780G seems like it will bring affordable smartphones that have long been subjected to ‘smaller’ chips alive with its cool features. Low-range and some mid-range smartphones may finally be able to join its counterparts in enjoying the cool features that comes with their chips and processors. Smartphones that will run on the new Snapdragon 780G should be available in the market before the second quarter of the year comes to an end.
