Enhancing conversations around the world through innovation, Microsoft’s Skype platform is stepping into a new era of live communication. Skype has announced the launch of a groundbreaking feature, the Skype Translator, the development of which required more than a decade of diligent work and significant investment.

This soon-to-be-launched marvel of real-time translation comes initially loaded with English and Spanish languages, implying that conversational barriers between speakers of these languages could soon become a thing of the past during video calls. With this holistic and automatic translation feature, individuals will be capable of engaging in free-flowing conversation without the difficulties of traditional language barriers.

Gurdeep Pall, a representative from Microsoft, unveiled these exciting developments, expressing that, “Skype Translator will open up endless possibilities for people around the world to connect, communicate and collaborate. People will no longer be hindered by geography and language.”

School children in Mexico City and Tacoma, Washington, have already tested this innovative feature, which catalyzed collaborative communication between English and Spanish speakers.

Today, Skype is the leading VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) application worldwide, enlisting over 300 million active users each month and facilitating approximately 2 billion minutes of voice or video calls each day.

Microsoft, after acquiring Skype in 2011 for $8.65 billion, has observed a consistent expansion in user-base. Whether this acquisition has brought the desired financial outcomes to Microsoft remains to be seen. Amidst these new revelations, Microsoft also hinted at retiring its Lync service, another VoIP-based platform, signaling a reshaping of its communication strategy.
