Facebook’s Instagram Launches ‘Remix for Reels’

Instagram has launched ‘Remix for Reels’ and this new feature will enable users to be able to react or respond to people’s Reels. Instagram Reels is very similar to the whole idea of TikTok, and many say that this is where Facebook got the inspiration for its Reels feature. Facebook might have also developed Reels to be able to keep up with the new wave of competition that video-sharing app TikTok came with. ‘Remix for Reels’ might have also been inspired by TikTok Duet feature.

Instagram announced via tweet yesterday that “Now you can use the Remix feature in Reels to create your own reel next to one that already exists. Whether you are capturing your reaction, responding to friends, or bringing your own magic to trends, Remix is another way to collab on Instagram”. In other news, Remix for Reels is just like TikTok’s Duets. While this is a great development for users of the Reels feature, many have called out Instagram for its lack of original ideas and tagged it a platform that merely imitates others.

Instagram reels allow Instagram users to record, share and watch created videos. The feature is available at the apps Explore tab and has a wide collection of music to choose from and quality augmented reality effects that will bring users videos to life. Users might want to create new Reels with other users’ old Reels and this was formerly not available, not up till now. Users can use the ‘Remix for Reels’ feature to do this easily and in no time.

To use this new feature, you need to select the Reel that you want to remix, click or tap on the three-dot menu and select ‘Remix this Reel”. With this feature, you can shoot in real time or simply upload pre-recorded videos. You are also given the freedom to alter the original video’s volume, add a new voice-over and make your own new edits.

Reels and ‘Remix for Reels’ are not Facebook’s first attempts at out-competing TikTok. Facebook launched a social network in 2018 called Lasso. It was similar to TikTok and allowed for the creation of 15 seconds long videos. The app was stopped just before Reels was launched on Instagram.
