#RIPTwitter???

In the last 24 hours hashtags like #RIPTwitter, #GoodByeTwitter, etc., have been trending on the Elon Musk-controlled microblogging platform, Twitter. These hashtags have been trending on the platform as a result of a new wave of resignations that has hit the company. People have taken to the platform, under the assumption that Twitter might shut down as a result of the recent massive resignations, to say their goodbyes.

Employees have been resigning since Thursday after the company’s CEO Elon Musk issued an ultimatum on Wednesday informing employees that they need to either sign up for “long hours at high intensity” or leave the company. In a companywide email, the CEO had given employees until 5 p.m. ET to decide if they wanted to stay or leave.

According to internal Slack messages that ran up to 5 p.m. ET on Thursday, engineers and other employees of the company had quit after posting goodbye messages to a “watercooler” chat group that employees had been using in recent weeks to notify other employees that they were leaving. There were hundreds of salute emojis conveying the “thank you for your service” message with a handful of goodbye messages.

As of Thursday, the total number of people that had resigned remained unknown but the assumption remains at a few hundred.

Other emails that CEO Elon Musk sent indicated that managers with meet with employees in person once a week or at least once a month, adding that these managers could lose their jobs for allowing remote work except they prove, in his view, to be “excellent” or “exceptional.”

The recent development comes less than a month after Elon Musk took over the reins of leadership at Twitter. It also follows the blue verification saga that recently hit the company. Elon Musk said the paid blue verification check would return on the 29th of November.

Recently, Elon Musk said he’d be hiring a new CEO for Twitter but it’ll take some time. “There’s an initial burst of activity needed post-acquisition to reorganize the company. But then I expect to reduce my time at Twitter,” he said. The CEO also added that he hoped to complete the company’s organizational restructuring this week.

The new wave of resignations coupled with the cut-offs from earlier this year has left the company’s workforce smaller than when he took over the company after acquiring it for $44 billion.

“We are skilled professionals with lots of options, so Elon has given us no reasons to stay and many to leave,” some of the employees exiting the company wrote. Esther Crawford, who works on early-stage products at Twitter, sent a farewell message to those leaving the company. “To all the Tweeps who decided to make today your last day: thanks for being incredible teammates through the ups and downs,” she tweeted. “I can’t wait to see what you do next,” she wrote.

Musk turned one of the biggest sites on the internet into a crater within a month.

I never want to hear anyone call him other than a dipshit ever again.

CEO Elon Musk shared via Twitter that “And… we just hit another all-time high in Twitter usage.”

Even Elon Musk took part in what now seems to be a joke.
