Russia offers a $110,000 bounty if you can crack Tor

In an apparent move aiming at suppressing dissent, Russia’s Interior Ministry has announced a substantial reward of roughly $110,000 to any entity capable of infiltrating Tor. The Tor privacy network, which was initially designed by the US Navy, has become a crucial tool for those seeking to protect their online communications against government interference. The reward announcement followed a noticeable clampdown on protestors and opponents in 2012. Out of necessity, those who avoided detention or expulsion from the country consequently relied heavily on anonymous internet communication as a safeguard against potential Kremlin retaliation. Considering accepting this challenging yet potentially highly lucrative opportunity? It’s important to note that this reward is exclusively open to institutions possessing the required security clearances to function for the Russian government.
