Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 Resurrected as Refurbished Galaxy Note FE

The last significant news regarding Samsung’s ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 arrived in February, revealing plans to refurbish the devices and sell them in emerging markets at budget-conscious prices. But, for those beyond the bounds of South Korea, accessing the revamped device might require a little patience.

Samsung, the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer, recently declared that sales of the redesigned phones would commence this Friday in South Korea. However, this new incarnation will not bear the mark of its notorious predecessor, Note 7. Instead, it has been christened as the Galaxy Note FE (Fan Edition), presumably in a nod to the loyalty of their consumer base despite past missteps.

Priced at $610, the Galaxy Note FE will be considerably less steep than the original Note 7, a reduction of approximately 30 percent. This iteration also boasts of Samsung’s innovative digital voice assistant, Bixby, an added lure for potential customers.

Samsung’s launch of the Note 7 infamously ran into a brick wall a mere two months down the line, with reports of devices catching fire necessitating a substantial recall of approximately 2.5 million units. Despite attempts to rectify the situation, renewed instances of combustion led Samsung to halt production altogether and offer refunds to disappointed customers.

Initially, the Note FE’s availability will be restricted, with only 400,000 units slated for launch. Samsung remains coy regarding the total number of devices that will ultimately hit the market.
In spite of the financial decimation wrought by the Note 7 debacle, Samsung displayed impressive resilience, clocking a healthy $7 billion in profits in January.

In a calculated move likely to appease environmentally conscious factions, Samsung has revealed that the device has been constructed using components from unsuccessful Note 7 units. Further details have been shared regarding the disposal plan for the remaining parts, reflecting an effort to mitigate the environmental footprint of their past failures.
