There was a significant discovery of a significant update to Samsung’s Android web browser with the Ask AI function in February. Now that this feature is operational, it has also brought forth something pretty unexpected.
The program is now called Samsung Browser instead of Samsung Internet. The Galaxy S26 Ultra running version 29.0.4.45 of the app allows you to verify this modification, which is mirrored in the updated onboarding process (see below).
This means that “Samsung Internet” has been officially replaced with “Samsung Browser” as the primary web browser on Samsung devices.
Notably, only Samsung Internet results appear when I search for Samsung Browser on the Play Store and Galaxy Store using my Galaxy S24 FE running One UI 8. All of the company’s online properties continue to use the Samsung Internet name.
This implies that only the newest flagship smartphone line with the most recent One UI version can use the most recent version of the Samsung Browser.
Ask AI is a tool that lets users ask the browser questions about particular websites and provide more prompts. It reminds me of the Comet browser from Perplexity. The AI capability of the Samsung Browser is restricted to users in the US and South Korea, in contrast to Comet.
The software now notifies users if they “access malicious websites”, in addition to its new name and Ask AI feature. Additionally, you’ll note that its icon is more colourful, with more blur and brighter hues.
It’s unknown why Samsung changed the name of the well-known browser in the first place or when the app’s new identity will show up on other devices. Those who are accustomed to looking for “Internet” in their launcher’s app drawer may find this change confusing because you will now need to remember to type “Browser” instead.
More important information on the rebrand shows that, as of right now, only the Galaxy S26 series running One UI 8.5 (version 29.0.4.45) can use the new name. The on-device label shows that the program is merely labelled “Browser” in the app drawer. This is in line with a larger trend in which Samsung has been eliminating the word “Samsung” from its standard applications (e.g., “Samsung Gallery” became “Gallery”). The visual changes from the updated icon have a more noticeable blur effect and brighter colours.
The new feature introduced is “Ask AI”, which is currently only available in the US and South Korea. This integrated assistant can summarise web pages, extract information from lengthy publications, and respond to prompts right within the browser, and the other is improved security: when users try to visit harmful websites, the browser now issues more forceful warnings.
The present status of the rollout features the current limit and future expansion stated below.
- Current Limit: The “Samsung Internet” logo is still visible on devices running earlier software, like the Galaxy S23 Ultra on One UI 8.0.
- Future Expansion: As One UI 8.5 spreads to new models, the rebranding is anticipated to spread to additional Galaxy devices. It may also eventually be implemented on the PC version of the browser.
