Exynos 1280

Samsung officially announces the Exynos 1280 chip. Some of the most recent Galaxy A-Series mid-rangers such as the Galaxy A33, Galaxy A53, and Galaxy M33 are said to feature the said.

The Exynos 1280 chip builds on Samsung’s 5nm EUV process. It also features an eight-core CPU made of two Cortex-A78 performance cores alongside about six Cortex A-55 power-efficient cores. The GPU side is handled by the ARM Mali-G68 and you get sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G connectivity.

Reports say the Exynos 1280 is fully optimized with Fused Multiply-Add or FMA which is sure to guarantee better power consumption and battery life. The onboard neural processing unit or NPU brings together a number of AI functions such as scene segmentation, real-time motion analysis, and multi-object surveillance.

For clearer images with lesser noise, Samsung has integrated a number of things, the multi-frame image processing, electronic image stabilization as well as 4K video recording and playback at 30fps.

With a refresh rate of about 120Hz, the new chipset is capable of handling FHD+ displays,  its image signal processor supports a max resolution of up to 108MP and up to three 16MP modules. It supports WiFi 802.11ac MIMO with dual-band (2.4/5G), Bluetooth 5.2, and quad-constellation multi-signal for L1 and L5 GNSS positioning.

According to reports, the Exynos 1280 has a very similar performance to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G, which Samsung has previously utilised on the Galaxy A52s 5G. The latter has quite an impressive gaming performance for a mid-range offering and it looks like the Exynos 1280 will be no slouch either, with Samsung potentially using the chipset in more mid-range offerings in the future.
