Skype Lite Unveils Innovative SMS Insights Feature in India: Here’s How it Functions

Lite apps are condensed versions of standard applications, offering full features with optimized data usage. These data-efficient alternatives such as Messenger Lite, Twitter Lite, and others are widely appreciated for their lower data consumption.

Skype, a popular telecommunications application, has joined the list with its introduction of Skype Lite. Aimed at operating under limited network conditions, the developers have integrated an exciting new feature named SMS Insights into this app. This innovative add-on simplifies text messaging by allowing users to convert the app into their default SMS service and manage their text messages smoothly and effectively.

SMS Insights is revolutionizing the way users handle their messages by sorting them into various categories. These may range from online orders, promotional marketing messages, upcoming bills, to personalized SMSs. The tool is incredibly efficient at identifying and organizing these messages to aid users in keeping track of their communications.

In a blog post, Microsoft, the parent company of Skype, highlighted the intentions behind the SMS Insights feature, “The new feature will make the SMS box smarter on the smartphones with automatic message sorting under different categories like Finance, Shopping, Travel, Reminder, and Promotions, helping users take an action from within the app.”

Exploring the functionality, the feature compartmentalizes all SMSs into one tab while placing all the insights into another. This dual structure allows a systematic breakdown of all incoming data, from flight check-ins and promotional messages to customer care feedback.

To take advantage of this feature, users must install the Skype Lite app and configure it as their default SMS app. They must then permit the app to access their text messages to categorize and organize them systematically.

Microsoft launched Skype Lite earlier this year, and it stands as the smallest app created by the tech giant to date. The innovative SMS Insights function spans across various message categories such as shopping, banking, and promotions.

However, Microsoft emphasized that the feature is still being refined. Presently, users cannot delete messages within the feature unless they revert to their phone’s default SMS service. The SMS Insights service is currently exclusive to Android users.

Microsoft reassures users about their privacy stating that the ‘SMS classification and categorisation happens locally’ on the phone itself. The tech titan assures that it cannot access or read any information on the user’s device, making the application safely secure.

Skype Lite’s SMS Insights feature signifies a significant step forward in data-efficient and user-friendly telecommunications, promising an easier and more organized experience for its users.
