Snap is testing a paid subscription plan called Snapchat Plus | TechSpot

Snap has confirmed an internal test of a paid subscription called Snapchat Plus. This new product is set to give users access to early features and abilities. The new product testing was first reported on Twitter by the app developer and researcher Alessandro Paluzzi

In a statement to The Verge, Snap spokesperson Liz Markman confirmed that Snapchat Plus is now in its early internal testing phase. Markman adds that the Snap team is excited about the pre-release features that potentially will share exclusive content with subscribers. The Snap team is also excited about learning more ways to serve the Snap community.

Screenshots and information posted by Paluzzi reveal that other features for Snapchat Plus are in the testing phase. These features include the ability to pin one of your friends as your “#1 BFF,” the ability to change the Snapchat icon, and see who rewatches your stories. Paluzzi also revealed that Snapchat Plus has currently listed at about 4.59 Euros a month and 45.99 Euros a year or around $4.81 and $48.21, respectively. For now, the prices are yet to be confirmed.

Snap isn’t the only social network making movies to roll out a paid model. Telegram confirmed that it’s working on a premium subscription due for rollout later this month, and late last year, Twitter launched its Blue service, which is currently available in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. It’s unclear when Snapchat Plus plan to roll out but right now it’s still in the testing phase.

In the wake of Apple’s introducing a privacy feature for advertisements with iOS 14.5, allowing users to turn off ad tracking on an app-by-app basis, many free apps have had to reconsider exploring other ways of making money. Snapchat in particular cited changes to iOS that resulted in a drop in revenue targets, Snapchat says it will slow down hiring this year.
