On Thursday, Snapchat released a specific software for the Apple Watch, broadening its user base and also enabling Apple Watch users to browse the social network on their wrists. With this new software, watchOS app being released, users may preview incoming messages and respond to them using a variety of choices, including Scribble and Dictation. In addition, the social media network has released the Lens Studio app for iOS and a web tool that enables developers to employ artificial intelligence (AI) to construct original lenses and make them publicly available.
With this release and introduction, this makes Snapchat to be now accessible on mobile devices, the web, tablets, and Apple Watch thanks to this new software.
Now, users can preview incoming messages and respond with an emoji, Scribble, Dictation, or the keyboard. According to the firm, the new software would enable users to do things like glance down and swiftly respond while running, or instantly let their friend know they’re “here” while they’re meeting up at a restaurant.
Before this, there was no way to reply to Snapchat messages, even if you could preview them on your Apple Watch by turning them on on your iPhone.
In a press release, Snapchat revealed information about its new Apple Watch app. According to the social networking site, “the number of devices we use in our daily lives has grown” and it currently boasts over 900 million members. As part of its commitment to being accessible on all platforms, Snapchat has launched the app on the Apple Watch platform to allow more people to remain in touch with one another. WatchOS 9.0 or later firmware is required. In addition to smartphones, our community is already enjoying using Snapchat on tablets and the web, which strengthens our resolve to make the app accessible on all of your devices, including wearables.
Evan Spiegel, the CEO of Snapchat, stated years ago that he wasn’t a big fan of the Apple Watch’s tiny screen, stating that consumers would likely prefer to view an image on their phone rather than their Watch. Thursday’s news represents a change in perspective for Snapchat.
Instead of focusing on allowing users to view photos or videos, Snapchat is instead utilizing its watchOS app to allow users to reply to messages swiftly.
By launching a dedicated watchOS app, Snapchat has surpassed competitors like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp in the messaging space.
It complements already-existing platforms including the web, tablets, and smartphones. The app does not offer a complete experience on the Apple Watch, though, and its functionality is a little different. The new Apple Watch software lets you reply to incoming messages using emoji, Scribble, or Dictation, but it doesn’t let you send texts or Snaps directly. Users can utilize the on-screen keyboard on the smartwatch or scribble on the screen.
Interestingly, if you have ever synced an iPhone with an Apple Watch and chosen to mirror notifications, this feature was previously available.
In the meantime, Snapchat has made its Lens Studio software available on the iPhone and the internet. iOS users may now create and publish new Lenses powered by augmented reality (AR) using experimental new capabilities that were previously only available on PCs. They can use Bitmojis to develop Lenses that better express themselves and use AI to create effects.
The goal of the new iOS app and web tool is to enable more individuals to design Lenses, even though the desktop application is still the main tool for professional creators. Lens Studio may be downloaded for free from the iPhone App Store and is hosted on the lensstudio.snapchat.com website.
