‘The Snappys’ was revealed on Wednesday by Snapchat, and its inaugural awards ceremony will take place on March 21. It’s also an inaugural flagship creator awards ceremony. “The Snappys”, an awards ceremony, is intended to honour “the creators shaping culture on Snapchat”, according to the social media giant. According to the social media giant, this is the first award show for creators on the platform.
The celebration of the “Snap Stars” will influence the community and culture of the platform and will take place at Snap’s Santa Monica offices.
Along with honours in fashion, beauty, sports, music, gastronomy, and games, creators will also earn accolades such as “Best Storyteller”, “Spotlight MVP”, and “Breakout Creator of the Year”. Other categories will also include community impact awards for cultural impact, comedy, and cooperation and teamwork.
The business stated in a blog post that “collectively, these accolades represent the various ways creators ignite dialogues, foster communities, and establish culture on Snapchat.” The company further stated that the Snappys serve as a reminder of Snapchat’s continued dedication to honouring creators as artists, entertainers, and cultural influencers in addition to users.
The most recent social media site to introduce creator awards is Snapchat. Last October, Meta-owned Instagram unveiled a brand-new “Ring” award to honour global creators. Each of the 25 winners was given a digital golden ring around their Instagram profile in addition to a real custom band created by English fashion designer Grace Wales Bonner, which Instagram unveiled online.
TikTok debuted its inaugural TikTok Awards program in the United States in November. Similar to Snapchat, Instagram gave out awards called “Creator of the Year”, “Video of the Year”, “Muse of the Year”, “Breakthrough Artist of the Year”, and others that were specialised to certain categories. It’s important to remember that TikTok has previously held awards events in Korea, Mexico, and Germany.
Since Snapchat will also hold a traditional awards show with live announcement of the winners, its awards are more comparable to those of TikTok. According to the firm, “creators, industry leaders, and special guests” would be present at the show. DJ Khaled, who will receive Snapchat’s “Lifetime Achievement Award”, is one of the “special guests”.
By introducing awards, Snapchat and its competitors are establishing themselves as prominent figures in the entertainment sector and as more than just social networking apps.
Comedian and creator Matt Friend will host the Snappys, which will be held at Snap’s Santa Monica offices. In the upcoming weeks, Snapchat claims it will make additional information available, including nomination lists.
With this action, Snapchat joins rivals like Instagram and TikTok, who have also recently started official recognition initiatives for their creator communities. Snapchat hopes to demonstrate its dedication to its best talent and offer a first-rate setting for brand collaborations and advertiser interaction by holding a live, in-person event.
According to Snapchat, further information will be made public in the weeks preceding the ceremony, including the complete list of nominees.
