Sony: EA Access Doesn’t ‘Represent Good Value To The PlayStation Gamer’

After the launch of EA’s novel subscription service, named Access, there arose some confusion regarding its exclusivity to Xbox One. Upon reaching out to Sony, we found it highly doubtful that this subscription would become available to PlayStation 4 enthusiasts anytime in the near future.

A Sony representative relayed to us through digital communication that their assessment of the EA Access subscription service determines that it fails to meet the standard of value that PlayStation gamers expect. Specifically, PlayStation Plus memberships have seen a surge of more than 200% since the PlayStation 4 was introduced. This indicates that PlayStation users are inclined towards obtaining a full suite of services, available on multiple platforms, for an economical, single payment. Sony posit that persuading their clients to spend an extra $5 per month for this service dedicated to EA isn’t a favourable value proposition for the PlayStation community.

The EA Access service, presently under beta testing, is valued at $5 per month or $30 on an annual basis. It provides membership-assisted discounts, complimentary games from their catalogue (only valid as long as the membership remains active) and early access to game trials up to five days before their official release. Xbox One preview members got an early taste of this service, with FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4 included free with the subscription.

While there’s a hint Sony may change its mind in the days to come, the odds presently seem distant. For more comprehensive news on EA Access, we direct you to the coverage from the previous day.
