Sony Organises A PlayStation Event for June; A State of Play

A State of Play broadcast rather than a lengthy PlayStation Showcase is probably what Sony has chosen to do.

Reputable insider NateDrake claimed to have heard nothing about any impending PlayStation Presentation, which we reported about yesterday. Sony’s next event is presently planned for sometime in September, according to another leaker.

According to reports, Sony will return next month with a games showcase. Instead of a lengthy PlayStation Showcase, the presentation is probably going to be a State of Play broadcast. The PlayStation parent company unveiled Saros, a first-party action game from Housemarque, during the most recent State of Play conference in February.

The information was provided by Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb, who had previously stated in February that Sony was unsure whether to have a State of Play event this summer or a full-length PlayStation Showcase. Grubb stated that the business intended to hold a games presentation in June during Thursday’s episode of the Game Mess Mornings podcast. Instead of a genuine Showcase, he said, Sony has probably decided to go with a State of Play broadcast.

Also NateDrake, a trustworthy individual, remarked on ResetEra and stated that he has not received any information from Sony regarding a May event this year. The reason I haven’t is that something is happening in June; it’s a June thing. In June, they will be doing something.

Grubb claimed that because “something’s happening in June,” he had not heard of a Sony event in May.

In June, they’ll be doing something. Now, will that be a major showcase? Not in my opinion. A few months ago, Grubb mentioned that he had heard they were debating whether to have a State of Play or a Showcase. It seems likely that they decided on a State of Play,” he remarked.

Though he wasn’t positive, Grubb stated he was leaning toward a State of Play show the following month.

He has heard of June, but he is not entirely sure about that part of it, it’s probably a State of Play.”

What the State of Play Will Bring In addition to occasional first-party lineup updates, State of Play events are often shorter and mostly consist of third-party announcements. Trailers for third-party titles including MindsEye, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and Tides of Annihilation were shown during the most recent State of Play in February. However, Saros, the upcoming game from Housemarque, the creator of Returnal, was unveiled by Sony.

Conversely, PlayStation Showcase focuses on first-party announcements and has a far wider reach. While the State of Play broadcast occurs three to four times a year, the Showcase is usually held once a year. However, the most recent PlayStation Showcase was in 2023; Sony did not attend in 2024, and it appears that it will do so once more in 2025.

However, the business ought to have enough merchandise to display at a function next month. A number of first-party PlayStation studios are currently developing their upcoming projects. Some of these have already been revealed: Sucker Punch is scheduled to release Ghost of Yotei, the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, in October 2025; Insomniac Games is working on Wolverine; while Naughty Dog is working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and one other unnamed project.

Since the game was announced in 2021, Insomniac has remained radio silent on Wolverine. An announcement regarding the Superhero title may be made at the presentation next month. Although the next project from God of War developer Santa Monica has not been disclosed, Grubb reported in March that the company was developing a breakaway “side-story project” that would be set in the original Greek mythology of the franchise and would debut later this year.

Grubb implied on the podcast that Sony might be preparing for a more significant announcement.

They’re being quite cautious. It was a little challenging to find out that something was happening in June, so it does give me the impression that they are concealing something, even though that is just conjecture,” Grubb added.
