Information gathered by MyBroadband is that Link Africa-BitCo, an independent fiber network operator, has laid off a number of staff members. According to the corporation, 21 employees were affected by the layoffs.

Imran Abbas, the group CEO of Link Africa-BitCo, stated that the layoffs were a part of a strategic internal reorganisation that aimed to better align their operations with their long-term business objectives.

“This decision was not made hastily and was the result of a comprehensive and consultative process that complied with labour laws,” Abbas said.

“The goal of the restructuring is to improve operational effectiveness, facilitate future expansion, and guarantee that we maintain our agility and competitiveness in a changing market.”

Abbas stated that they were dedicated to providing the necessary resources and support to all impacted staff during the transition.

“We continue to focus on providing our clients and stakeholders with high-quality services without any disruption, and the overall impact on our business operations is minimal,” Abbas stated.

Abbas further said “We are confident about the opportunities ahead, and our core teams are still strong.

The layoffs follow Link Africa’s April 2024 acquisition of BitCo Telecoms for an undisclosed amount.

At the time, rumors circulated that BitCo was looking for a sale after experiencing financial difficulties. At the time, Link Africa refuted this rumor, claiming BitCo was not experiencing financial difficulties.

“Link Africa will be able to increase its customer base, network coverage, and product portfolio throughout the nation thanks to the acquisition,” the business stated.

Although both businesses provide fiber services for homes and businesses, Link Africa stated that it has concentrated on underserved and isolated locations.

In contrast, BitCo Telecoms is well-established in the commercial and enterprise sectors, the report stated.

BitCo provides a variety of services, including voice solutions, fixed lines, and cloud services. According to Link Africa, its clientele is varied and devoted, encompassing both small and large businesses.

According to Link Africa, BitCo Telecoms also offers a strong network core, cloud security, and SDWAN solutions.

It said that by combining the complementing skills and characteristics of the two businesses, the acquisition will result in a more robust and varied telecoms provider.
