Jack Dorsey's Square service to begin beta testing for Apple's Tap to Pay - NewsExplorer

Square a financial payments service run by Jack Dorsey has announced plans of working with Apple for the purpose of enabling the Tap to Pay technology. With a beta test set to roll out this summer, the company is enabling an Early Access Program which will allow select sellers to begin testing the new technology.

According to David Talach, Head of Financial Services at Square “Bringing Tap to Pay on iPhone into the Square ecosystem ensures that new sellers will have another free option to get up and running while providing businesses of any complexity with more flexibility to adapt their commerce experiences to evolving consumer preferences and changing industry trends.”

For companies that make use of the Square services to process sales, companies will also need to use Square’s familiar dongle to receive payments. With support for Tap to Pay a big chunk of payments with nothing other than an iPhone and the Square app to enable the payment process. The new program is guaranteed to ensure iPhone users make payment easier using their phones within Square’s point of sale (POS) app.

Earlier in the year, Apple introduced Tap to Pay, and support was first allowed on Square’s competitor Stripe. The partnership between Apple’s Tap to Pay and Stripe made payment possible in the Shopify POS app. Currently, the Tap to Pay feature is available on the iPhone XS models and later, and terms for use require that a user must have cards or phones that support tapping to pay. Tap to Pay has a number of reasons why a lot of vendors should consider making using it, one of which is that it allows vendors to take in more forms of payment easily. The dongle, for a lot of Square users, might still be the best and easiest choice.

Square has noted that the Early Access Program is limited, though the company did not specify when the program would start, right now, signing up for the program is available on Square’s website.
