Marking a significant bounce back within the technology sphere, TD Mobile has inked a significant deal with HMD Global, allowing for the nationwide distribution of Nokia devices in Nigeria, as reported by Punch.
In the not-so-distant past, the brand Nokia was deeply ingrained in the fabric of everyday Nigerian life. From scrambling for power banks or frantically locating a portable charger at a friend’s place, to simply relying on the humble Nokia pin mouth charger sparing your device from that dreaded low battery indicator – Nokia was an ubiquitous presence. A reverence for its unmatched durability and exceptional battery life made it the ideal choice for the Nigerian market.
Succumbing to the onslaught of Android devices, Nokia gradually lost its foothold in the Nigerian tech market. In a recent, prominent move, Nokia stirred the stagnant waters of the tech landscape by unveiling its new smartphone models – the Nokia 3, 5, and 6 series, immaculately designed to deliver a top-tier Android experience.
TD Mobile, a subsidiary of Technologies Distributors Limited, stated that the partnership incorporates the reincarnated version of the beloved 3310 mobile phone, which was unveiled at the Mobile World Summit 2017 in Barcelona, Spain.
Speaking on the partnership, Mrs. Gozy Ijogun expects the agreement to generate significant mutual benefits. She said, “We are thrilled to partner with Nokia, which remains one of the world’s most recognized smartphone brands. Our endeavor is to uphold and promote the brand in line with our long-standing tradition of excellence…We aim to introduce Nokia’s range of products to millions of consumers through our broad distribution channels and network of resellers.”
Hoping for Nokia’s sustainable re-entry into the Nigerian market, Mrs. Ijogun acknowledged the changing preferences of consumers, who are less concerned about durability – an attribute that Nokia once championed. On an interesting note, HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, specified during the products’ launch in Lagos that the new Nokia devices amalgamate unrivaled craftsmanship, striking design, and potent entertainment features.
Mrs. Ijogun commented on the future outlook of the partnership noting, “The alliance is poised to go a long way, particularly in terms of the mutually beneficial returns and other opportunities it will create for both entities.”
Armed with Android compatibility, the reinvigorated Nokia brand is poised to reignite the competitive edge against other tech brands, promising exciting times ahead in the Nigerian tech market.
