The Nigerian government has established a non-governmental initiative to combat the outraging unemployment status common with African youths. This initiative is powered by Tech4Dev and the government — with technology,  the federal government intends to push support significant change, developing over 36,000 Nigerian youths, according to their respective expertise and skills.

This federal initiative is expected to employ thousands of skilled youths yearly while promoting entrepreneurship opportunities embracing digital skill empowerment. The Nigerian government appears to be advocating for Africa in general — a consortium was also established with the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development and another philanthropic organization such as the  Emerging Markets Model Initiative, EMMI.

It worth noting that the EMMI is a  nongovernmental program supported by Microsoft — starting with Nigerian youths, this initiative advocate for the unemployed with expectations to empower over 36,000 Nigerians with digital skill overtime. The EMMI has reportedly served a nonprofit purpose with the intent to provide extreme resources to government agencies or ministries.

Focusing on the local labor market  — re-Skilling and employing these digitally skilled youths,  Tech4Dev aims to imbibe digital literacy in aspirants. Certified participants of this initiative will move to the next level of acquiring artificial intelligence as a skill. While underserved communities in Nigeria need to worry about jobs, utilizing this skill — this initiative has sorted out jobs placement as well as entrepreneurship opportunities.

For example, imagine Tech4Dev as an organization that is committed to “creating access to decent work opportunities and platforms to help provide economic prosperity pathways for financial freedom and economic empowerment for youths across Nigeria and Africa as a whole,” according to Tech4Dev’s executive director, Diwura Oladepo.

Diwura added, “We are a proud proponent of the immense power of digital skills training as a tool to achieve this and improve livelihood.” Since the uprise of the pandemic, unemployment in Nigeria has heightened, and this initiative serves as a soluble post-Covid-19 scheme. “This partnership brings us one step closer to reducing the unemployment rate in Nigeria.”
