4 Ways Technology Has Changed Dental Practices

Technological advancements continue to make strides in several industries across the world, none more so than in the healthcare industry. Dental practices over the years have been able to develop the services they offer as innovations in technology have grown over time. Nowadays, it’s rare to enter a dental practice without seeing the use of technology.

Synthesizing patient data in healthcare is key to developing treatment plans for patients. Using the knowledge of dentists and interpreting data, an informed decision can be made between patient and dentist. However, without being able to collect data efficiently through technology the path may be proved a little more difficult for an ideal treatment plan for the patient. Let’s look at how technology has changed the dental practice for the better.

Electronic Health Records

Dealing with traditional paper-based data for patients is very tiresome and tedious. It can take up plenty of time and in some cases, become very messy if organised incorrectly. The introduction of electronic health records have ensured that the process can be streamlined and be efficient. Whenever a patient enters the practice, it’s as simple as looking through the electronic records to find the details for the patient.

LED Headlamps

Having the ability to see in a patient’s mouth and highlight potential health problems that aren’t necessarily magnified in natural light is a positive. The use of LED headlamps helps to achieve this possibility and improve the service of dentists around the globe. Over time, the headlamps have also improved with their battery life, practically providing a full charge throughout the day allowing dentists to be more confident that they can last the whole day.

Intraoral and Digital Cameras

Capturing high quality photos should be a priority for patients examinations and in more beneficial cases for dentists, before and after images. By using digital cameras, it enables the ability to document the patient’s treatment every step of the way. Not only this, it also educates and informs dentists of the treatment ahead and what’s required. Intraoral cameras are now incredibly easy to use and produce high quality imagery.

Digital Scanning

Digital scanning provides the possibility to combine electronic records, digital images and radiography together. This makes it far easier for dentists to not only educate patients about the problems they currently have persisting, but also provide them with steps to help any complaints they have occurring to lead to a final outcome.

This can be particularly useful for patients that opt for orthodontic, crown and bridge and invisalign treatments Cheshire-based as it provides easy communication between practice and lab where they need to be created.

Final thoughts

Whilst there are both pros and cons to using technology in industries, one thing for sure is that it has benefited dentistry in many ways. It’s sure to be a strategy that continues to be adopted by healthcare practitioners as they look to continue dealing with the demand of patients and ensuring procedures can be streamlined in the long term.
