Following the gradual rollout and introduction of small components last year, Telegram’s next Android update is fully embracing Liquid Glass with new design features throughout the user interface (UI), marking a significant makeover. This redesign aligns its interface with the modern iOS aesthetic.
Available in Telegram for Android v12.4.0, which is currently making its way broadly via the Play Store, the messaging app has received a makeover and now features a lot more design aspects reminiscent of Liquid Glass. This improves upon the October/November 2025 update, which changed some of the app’s features.
With a four-tab bottom bar that seems like it was lifted from iOS and new translucent parts that stand out in the app’s light mode, Telegram has embraced this new aesthetic in its most recent update. Though it differs slightly from what you see on iOS, it is obviously influenced by Apple’s new design language, which goes beyond transparency. Even when you scroll through the four tabs, which have the Chats, Contacts, Settings, and Profile, the bottom bar remains visible.
With “New Group” and other elements from the hamburger side menu now located in a three-dot overflow menu at the top right of the conversations screen, the hamburger side menu has also been completely eliminated.
Aside from the bottom bar menu that remains visible and the hamburger side menu that has been eliminated, it also has the UI’s “frosted” visual components, which are especially noticeable in light mode with rounded cards, and blurring translucent backgrounds are all part of the liquid glass aesthetic. All panels and menus now have a softer, more contemporary appearance, with thanks to improved icons and spacing.
Other new features and improvements are:
- The AI Summaries, which is powered by the decentralised Cocoon network, this version features AI-generated summaries for Instant View pages and lengthy channel postings.
- The performance controls feature maintains performance and saves battery life; users can control these new visual effects using Power Saving Settings.
- The visual consistency of the redesign is a component of a larger initiative to standardise Telegram’s design language for iOS and Android.
This Android revamp comes after Telegram’s initial rollout of complete support for Liquid Glass on iOS in early January. Reactions from users haven’t exactly been favourable. Users’ reactions on Reddit speak volumes.
Users can have a feel of these features and improvements by downloading the update straight from the official Telegram website or checking for it right now on the Google Play Store.
