Tesla is rolling out a redesigned self-driving app that puts usage stats and one-tap subscriptions to its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software front and centre, adding a layer of gamification to how drivers engage with the system.
The updated app will allow Tesla owners to see detailed information on how often they use Full Self-Driving (FSD), including multi-day “streaks” that track consecutive days of activation. The redesign also introduces a streamlined subscription flow aimed at making it easier to sign up for the advanced driver assistance system.
Until now, Tesla owners who wanted to subscribe to FSD had to navigate through several menus on the in-car touchscreen or mobile app. With the new self-driving app experience, Tesla is collapsing that into a single action: eligible owners will be able to start an FSD subscription with one tap.
There is a catch: the one-tap subscription flow is only available on vehicles equipped with Tesla’s A14 chip, also referred to as FSD Hardware 4.0. Tesla began shipping this hardware in vehicles from January 2023. Owners of older vehicles without this hardware aren’t included in this simplified flow, based on the current information.
Tesla sells FSD (Supervised) as a subscription service, available at $99 per month. The system can handle driving tasks such as steering, lane changes and parking, but it still requires active driver supervision. That means vehicles using FSD are not considered fully autonomous, and the driver remains responsible for monitoring the road and intervening when needed.

Existing FSD users today can see basic metrics, such as total miles driven and the percentage of driving done using FSD. The redesigned app goes further by introducing a richer dashboard of statistics. Tesla plans to show FSD usage in a bar chart and highlight “streaks” that display how many consecutive days the driver has engaged the software.
This approach effectively adds a gamified layer to the advanced driver assistance system, rewarding frequent usage with visible streaks and a more granular view of how often the feature is used. Tesla previewed the revamped self-driving app and other upcoming features in a post on X, positioning the changes as part of its next major software update.
FSD (Supervised) first launched in beta in late 2020 and has been updated regularly to remove bugs and improve performance and reliability. The feature is central to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s effort to frame the company as an AI and robotics company as much as a car manufacturer.
Part of Musk’s long-term incentive structure is tied directly to FSD adoption. One of the product milestones required for him to receive the full pay-out of his new $1 trillion pay package is reaching 10 million active FSD subscriptions by 2035. While a redesigned app may appear like a small interface tweak, making subscriptions more visible and easier to start is aligned with that target.
Beyond the user experience changes, FSD (Supervised) is already available in multiple markets worldwide, including Australia, Canada, China, Mexico, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, South Korea and the United States. In Europe, Dutch regulator RDW approved the use of FSD on April 10 after researching and testing the product, adding another jurisdiction to Tesla’s list of FSD markets.
Tesla has not described these new streak and stats features as changing how FSD behaves on the road. Instead, the focus is on how drivers access the system and understand their own usage. By surfacing usage patterns and enabling frictionless sign-ups on newer hardware, Tesla is betting that small interface decisions can help nudge more owners to activate and keep using its most advanced driver assistance option.
