Electric vehicle company Tesla has reported its vehicle and delivery numbers for the first quarter of 2022 ended on the 31st of March.

In the quarter, the company produced a total of 305,407 vehicles and made a delivery of 310,048 vehicles in that same period. According to the company, its Model 3 and Model Y vehicles made up 95 percent or 295,324 of the total deliveries in the first quarter of 2022. Although the numbers reported by the company are impressive, especially when compared to the same period in 2021, the company produced 4,641 fewer cars than it delivered, less than it had projected for the quarter and cited “ongoing supply chain challenges and factory shutdowns” as the reason for the setback.

In the first quarter of 2021, the company produced 180,338 electric vehicles and delivered 184,800 electric vehicles.

The expectation of analysts for the delivery of Tesla vehicles, according to estimates compiled by FactSet as of March 31st, came in at 317,000 vehicles which the company fell short of.

Notably, the company opened its first manufacturing facility in Europe. The factory had a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the 22nd of March. The new manufacturing facility is called the new Giga Berlin plant and is located in Grünheide, a coal town in Brandenburg, Germany, within commuting distance of the capital.

The company is also planning to host a grand opening and “cyber rodeo” event on the 7th of April, at another vehicle assembly plant located in Austin, Texas. Last year, on the 1st of December, the company moved its headquarters to Austin. Its first electric vehicle factory located in Fremont, California, is still in operation.

Like other companies, Tesla’s operations in the first quarter were affected by a surge in Coronavirus cases and new health restrictions imposed in China which saw the company temporarily pause operations at its Shanghai plant in China.

Apart from these, the unavailability of car parts, as well as inflation, continues to pose a problem for companies in the auto industry like Tesla. However, compared to the challenges faced in the quarter, Tesla did quite well with its numbers.
