Tesla, Elon Musk’s Brainchild, Launches Pre-Orders for Its Revolutionary Solar Roofs

Tesla, the innovative green energy firm led by Elon Musk, began accepting orders yesterday for its highly anticipated solar roofs, first revealed to the public last year. These advanced solar roofs aim to interchange traditional solar panels that can sometimes be an aesthetically displeasing addition to homes. Not only do they offer a visually appealing alternative, but they also promise to potentially generate more electricity in the long run, making them a solid investment for green energy enthusiasts.

Although the initial cost may seem hefty, considering the long-term benefits, it’s a worthwhile investment. If a 1700-square-foot roof is half covered with Tesla’s solar tiles, the initial expense would be around $34,300. But don’t let that price tag discourage you. Tesla asserts that over a thirty-year period, you could generate electricity worth $76,700. And that’s aside from the significant environmental gains, as solar energy reduces our reliance on traditional polluting energy sources.

Despite these promising benefits, some critics argue the cost of Tesla’s solar roofs outweighs the potential benefits when compared to installing traditional solar panels. Yet, Musk remains confident about the consumer demand for his solar roofs in the coming years. Those curious outside of the United States, however, will have to wait until 2018 to place and receive orders.

Placing an order is as easy as making a deposit of $1,000 on Tesla’s official website. This innovative roofing solution features textured glass tiles with embedded photovoltaic cells capable of collecting sunlight and converting it into electricity. These solar roofs stem from a visionary collaboration between SolarCity and Tesla, two Musk-operated organizations. Additionally, they are designed to work seamlessly with Tesla’s Powerwall 2 battery, creating an efficient energy ecosystem for your home.
