The M2 Chip From Apple And The New Computers They Will Likely Power Revealed In New Leak

Nine new Macs from Apple featuring its forthcoming M2 processors is currently in the works, according to a revelation by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, with the rumours coming on the heels the release of the Mac Studio by Apple, and its corresponding announcement that the the M1 Ultra would be the last chip in its current-gen line-up.

Even though Bloomberg itself aren’t forecasting a replacement for the Studio, at least not yet, it is reporting that a host of other Mac models will be having an upgrade.

According to Gurman, he has seen evidence of an M2-powered MacBook Air with a 10-core GPU, effectively punching earlier predictions of a redesigned Air still having an M1, together with an entry-level M2 MacBook Pro with the same specifications. He says the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros will also be making an appearance, together with a new Mac Mini and Mac Pro.

The new leak says a Mac Mini with the current-gen M1 Pro also came into reckoning, despite being hard to fathom the possibility of it making it to market with the existence of the Mac Studio.

It was also reported  that the higher-end machines will have M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, with the Max having 12 CPU cores and 38 graphics cores, even though Bloomberg did not include details on the breakdown of efficiency and performance cores. With the M2 Pro also showing up as an option for the Mac Mini, Gurman is predicting that the Mac Pro will have a “successor to the M1 Ultra.”

It will be of interest to note that the entry-level MacBook Pro may stick around, and may not be distinguishable from the Air, with tons of users predicting that Apple will quietly discontinue the 13-inch model,  as it appears to look like an unhappy medium between the Air and the 14-inch Pro.

The leak made no mention of a successor to the M1-powered 24-inch all-in-one iMac or a replacement for the recently discontinued 27-inch iMac.

Gurman says he got his leak information from developer logs that showed up due to the fact that Apple was testing its new computers with the use of third-party apps, and it wasn’t hard for him to latch in on the logs.

While we await the official announcement from Apple on at least few of the new computers, it is expected that at least two of the Macs would be launched around the middle of the year.
