The New Amazon Alexa+ Can Now Generate Podcast Episodes

The ability to create podcast episodes on demand was the most recent enhancement to Alexa+, which Amazon revealed earlier today, Monday.

“Alexa Podcasts,” which is the new feature that is being made available to American consumers today. The feature allows you to “turn any topic you’re curious about into a podcast episode, ready in minutes,” according to Amazon.

“Alexa Podcasts” is also a new feature that Amazon has formally introduced for Alexa+, its premium AI assistant that is powered by LLM. With just a query or topic suggestion, users may now instantaneously create whole, customized podcast episodes on demand. In contrast to comparable programs like Google’s NotebookLM, which need users to manually submit text or documents, Alexa+ uses its own extensive network of licensed data to create the episodes entirely from scratch.

Users only need to ask Alexa+ to produce a podcast about a subject they are interested in in order to utilize the service. Also, users are not required to write scripts, upload documents, or make any prior plans. Rather, Alexa+ investigates the request, collects data, and provides a brief synopsis of the episode’s topics. Users also have the privilege to adjust the episode’s focus, tone, and duration based on their interests.

The podcast is narrated by Alexa+ using AI-generated host voices once it is finished. Users receive a notification via the Alexa app and their Echo Show device when the episode is ready. In order to playback them at a later time, episodes are also stored in the app’s “Music” and “More” categories.

Another example of how Amazon is attempting to make Alexa+ more than a voice assistant is this function. Alexa+ is beginning to function more like a customized AI content generator rather than just responding to inquiries and managing smart home appliances.

The launch is also expected to cause some discussions and some concerns about accuracy, ethics, and the future of conventional producers, which are still raised by AI-generated voices and automated material.

Also, there are some concerns that have also been raised over the dependability of AI-generated podcasts, particularly when they deal with news or difficult subjects.

To avoid generating inaccurate content or so-called “AI slop,” Amazon has secured licensing agreements with more than 200 major media outlets and news organizations in the United States with which the business claims Alexa+ can obtain real-time information. This is also a move to increase information accuracy and dependability as Amazon collaborates with significant news outlets. The feature verifies information by cross-referencing historical data and real-time journalism from trusted partners such as The Washington Post, Reuters, the Associated Press, Time, Forbes, Vox Media, and hundreds of local U.S. newspapers.

Beyond In addition to podcasts, Amazon claims to be investigating other types of tailored AI audio, such as news briefings and material created from user-generated papers and shared data.

Using the conversational prompts, users can ask Alexa+ to create a podcast episode on any topic, such as the history of Tokyo’s cultural traditions, without needing a script or prep work. Alexa+ then gathers data, provides a pre-production outline you can customize by length, tone, or focus, and generates a discussion between two AI co-hosts using realistic synthetic voices, with the final audio file saved automatically to the Alexa app for seamless listening on your Echo Show device.

The feature is rolling out exclusively to U.S. citizens and users, with Prime members receiving it at no extra cost as part of the bundled Alexa+ premium suite, while non-Prime members can access it for as little as $19.99 per month. This rollout marks a major strategic shift for Amazon, transforming Alexa from a purely reactive assistant that answers simple questions into a proactive creator of highly personalized media.
