Twitter announced that its 6-second video service, Vine would be shutting down back in October. While many started mourning the death of the popular app, Twitter said not so fast. They announced three weeks ago that the app will transition into Vine Camera which will allow users capture 6-second looping videos that can be shared directly on Twitter without the app itself being a dedicated social media network. They said;

In the coming days we’re also rolling out a way to make it easy for your Vine followers to follow you on Twitter — stay tuned for a “Follow on Twitter” notification soon. And last but not least, you can now download your Vines through the app or the website. All of your Vines will continue to live on the vine.co website so you can browse all of the amazing videos you created over the years.

This means that you now have until the 17th of January to download all your videos from the iOS and Android apps and the vine.co website even though the website will exist after the date as an archive only where you can go and watch vine videos. They confirmed this on the FAQ section of their website so at least you know its official. Here’s how to save your videos before the 17th of January.

On January 17 the Vine app will become the Vine Camera. We will notify you through the app before this happens. The Vine Camera will allow you to make 6.5 second looping videos and post them to Twitter, or save them to your camera roll in a logged out state. You will not be able to do any of the other things you can currently do with the Vine app. Once the Vine Camera is live, you will no longer be able to download your Vines from the app.

You now have until the 17th of this month and for those who thought they would miss the Vine experience, well not entirely.
