In the realm of data storage, a new king has claimed its throne. Fixstars, a global company with its roots in Japan, has broken the mold by unveiling the world’s very first 13TB solid-state hard drive.

This innovation comes on the heels of Samsung’s announcement of a business card-sized 2TB external hard disk and more than doubles the maximum capacity of existing solid-state drives, which typically max out at 6TB.

This colossal 13TB drive can be accommodated by a standard 2.5-inch SSD slot and is compatible with SATA 6 motherboards. But while this breakthrough is undeniably impressive, it may only be accessible to a select few. The Fixstars’ 13TB SSD comes with an equally weighty price tag of around $1 per GB – equating to an astonishing $13,000, 2.5m Naira, or 1.3m KES.

Fixstars is primarily directing this mega-capacity hard drive at organizations whose storage needs measure beyond the commonplace. However, that isn’t to say individual tech aficionados with a substantial budget cannot procure one. But to do so, they will need to buy directly from Fixstars, as the product won’t be available on retail sites.

Glancing at the specifications, the drive’s capabilities are as impressive as its enormous storage capacity. Weighing in at 160g and with dimensions of 100mm x 70mm x 15mm, it matches up favorably with its counterparts. It offers sequential read/write speeds of up to 580/520 MB/s and supports TRIM. Furthermore, it uses 15nm MLC NAND Type and comes with a three-year limited warranty.

With this product, Fixstars has redefined the boundaries of solid-state drive capacity and established a new benchmark in the world of data storage. While it may be a significant investment, organizations with heavy data needs may very well find it to be a price worth paying.

Overall, Fixstars’ 13TB solid-state drive is an exciting advancement in data storage technology, setting new standards and opening up possibilities in the realm of large-scale data handling.
