Facebook Launches ‘Notify’: A Standalone News Notification App

Facebook is making its way onto your lock screen with the launching of its innovative notification app, aptly named ‘Notify.’ The announcement was unveiled in a blog post by Julian Gutman, the product manager for this fresh addition to Facebook’s lineup of services.

Heralding a partnership with esteemed publishers such as CNN and BuzzFeed, ‘Notify’ aspires to be your one-stop shop for breaking news. Users are encouraged to follow their favored publishers and channels to receive notifications of the latest headlines directly on their lock screens. Upon tapping on a notification, users are redirected to the publisher’s mobile page for a comprehensive read of the news piece. Functioning as an efficient ‘aggregator,’ Notify aims to streamline the way we consume news.

As Facebook’s user base surpasses the massive 1.5 billion mark, the tech giant strives to put forth new ways for delivering content. The News Feed feature has long been a staple of the platform, allowing users to glimpse the latest news from their favorite publishers and access them with a simple click. Notify, however, caters to the demand for even more smooth user experiences, mirroring similar ventures by other technology companies.

Apple recently launched its pre-installed ‘News’ app, while Facebook introduced ‘Instant Articles,’ a feature that allows substantial news providers to post articles directly onto Facebook, reducing the load times for readers significantly. Google, likewise, rolled out ‘Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)’ to magnify mobile web speed. Notify is Facebook’s charge into this evolving domain of real-time, mobile-optimized news dissemination.

All ears and excited for this new release? ‘Notify’ is now available for download from the Apple App Store. Releases of this nature usually roll out region-wise, with the USA leading the wave, however, Facebook plans a staggered rollout in other regions as well. If you’re a US App Store user, you can download and start using ‘Notify’ today.

Give ‘Notify’ a try and stay updated with around-the-clock news right on your lock screen. As Facebook strides forward with this trend-setting move in mobile news consumption, there’s no doubt that Notify is gaining substantial internet buzz.

Facebook ‘Notify’ – never miss a moment in news.
