Threads Moves Web App to Threads.com

The address for Threads on the Web has changed. Instead of going to Threads.net, you can now access the Meta-owned network by going to Threads.com.

Instagram Threads, a rival to X and Meta’s newest social network, is formally moving from Threads.net to Threads.com. Alongside the transition, the Threads web app will get a few quality-of-life enhancements, such as new tools for creating new columns, copying posts for resharing, finding your favourite creators from X on Threads, and easier access to custom feeds, saved posts, and likes.

Since the Threads.com name was then owned by a Sequoia-backed Slack rival business, Meta first released its new social software on the Threads.net URL in July 2023. (Shopify purchased that startup last year.)

Given the rise in traffic to “Threads.com,” a startup messaging app that has nothing to do with the platform, after its introduction, the move is probably going to make it simpler for visitors to find the website. Although Meta ultimately purchased the “Threads.com” domain in September of last year, they haven’t been pointing consumers to the website until recently.

Meta started rerouting the URL Threads.com to Threads.net after purchasing the Threads.com domain name in September 2024.

According to Meta, users will no longer be diverted from.com to.net, but rather the other way around, as of right now.

You won’t be routed if you enter Threads.com into your browser going forward; instead, you’ll be taken straight to your Threads home screen. In the meantime, those who enter Threads.net will be taken to Threads.com.

As of Meta’s most recent public financial release in January, the social app now has over 320 million monthly active users, and the update offers it a more noticeable and memorable URL. The app might be able to compete more effectively with its rival X, which also has a distinctive (and straightforward!) domain name, thanks to the sort of rebranding.

Along with this modification, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri revealed on Thursday a few other small changes to the Threads web app, which is frequently utilized by creators.

According to him and in addition to this modification, Meta is updating the website, displaying your personalized feeds in the same order as you have set them up on your mobile device. Users can now see their personalized feeds in the web app in the same sequence as they do on the mobile app. Additionally, users will no longer need to create a pinned column in order to view their favorite and saved posts; instead, they can immediately access them through the main menu

Instead of taking a screenshot, users can now copy a Threads post as an image thanks to another recent feature. According to Meta, this will make it simpler to share Threads posts on other platforms, such as Instagram.

Additionally, by selecting a new column icon on the right side of the screen, Threads users will now be able to add a column.

Additionally, Threads is testing a new feature that will let you find the profiles of people you follow on other applications by uploading a list of them, beginning with X. Now that Threads postings may be copied as photos, you can paste them onto other websites, such as Instagram. The online application is also adding a new “+” button in the bottom-right corner that may be used to generate posts, as well as a new symbol on the right side of the screen for adding columns.

People may now locate and follow the same creators they formerly followed on X thanks to a new feature. In order to use this function, which was unveiled earlier this month, customers must obtain it by downloading an archive of their X data, which is then uploaded to Threads.

A pop-up stating that users may now “Find popular creators from X” was displayed to those who had previously had access to the tool. According to Meta, the feature is still being tested.

This week, Threads made a number of significant modifications, including expanding the distribution of advertisements over 30 nations, including the US. Last month, it also began allowing users to make their personalized feeds or following their default.
