TikTok is improving its app with the introduction of new features that will allow composers to showcase their creations. A “Songwriter” label and a new tab on their profile to showcase their musical creations are among the features that are currently under beta testing. This can assist songwriters in better promoting themselves to prospective customers and to provide them with a larger platform to display their work.
With the new features, It is now possible for songwriters to create an official Songwriter Account. By adding a “Songwriter” label to their profile, this makes it easier for people to figure out who wrote the music.
According to the corporation, the new label and the music spotlight area are only accessible to a select group of songwriters and publishing partners. For the time being, publishers and songwriters who wish to participate in the initiative must sign up for a waitlist.
Furthermore, a brand-new “Songwriter Music Tab” will be available on their profiles, allowing songwriters to highlight their original or co-written songs and increase their visibility. This facilitates the exploration of a songwriter’s catalogue by fans, musicians, and industry professionals.
In order to learn about the demands of composers on social media with regard to creating revenue prospects and growing their profiles, TikTok claimed to have conducted surveys with over 870 of them and conducted several interviews with them. The company also cited an independent conduct survey that showed TikTok is used by over half of songwriters who use social media to increase their visibility. According to the Bytedance-owned apps, the choice to develop these capabilities was influenced by the results of these surveys.
TikTok’s Global Head of Music Publishing Licensing and Partnership stated in a statement, “We created these tools to honour and elevate songwriters and their work on our platform because we are fervently committed to supporting songwriters at TikTok.”
As hundreds of thousands of artist creators already do, “TikTok is unique in that it offers songwriters a way to highlight their musical works alongside their own content, helping them to tell stories about their music, their craft, and their lives, as well as to raise their profile and build their audience on TikTok.”
Interestingly, Spotify has been introducing tools to help songwriters showcase their work for years. Tidal introduced a service last year to manage songwriters’ work for which they have composition credits and track their income, going beyond simply showcasing their creations.
Even though TikTok chose to put an end to its music streaming service, TikTok Music, last year, the site is still crucial for artists to market their songs and for users to find new music. The business launched a TikTok for Artists platform earlier this year to enable artists to track the success of their tunes and campaigns.
According to TikTok, direct input from the song writing community helped create the upgrades. Before deciding to “improve discovery, monetization opportunities” for songwriters, TikTok conducted 18 in-depth interviews and polled 871 composers to better understand their needs.
The launch is in line with a recent MIDiA Research study that found songwriters place a high value on developing a social media following. Nowadays, 53% of composers utilize TikTok explicitly, while over 80% use social media to advance their careers.
TikTok is well known as a music discovery platform. Building on recent initiatives targeted at musicians and music professionals, these new song writing features are the most current recognition of that. TikTok introduced TikTok for Artists earlier this year to assist artists in tracking information related to their songs. Its “Add to Music App” feature, which enables users to save songs to their favourite streaming services, is one of its additional features.
TikTok is now enabling songwriters to increase their visibility on the app.
