Group Chat is Coming To TikTok’s Platform

TikTok unveils new update allowing for group chat options - The Jerusalem Post

TikTok revealed on Monday that it is integrating group conversations onto its platform—a move that appears to be an attempt to compete with well-known messaging services like Apple’s Messages and Meta’s WhatsApp. Now, you can establish group chats to communicate and share media with as many as 32 participants.

Although TikTok videos are frequently shared between users in group conversations on messaging applications, TikTok is now enabling users to do so directly on its site. On TikTok, users may now watch, remark, and respond collectively.

The most recent update suggests that TikTok wants to transform its app into a more conversational space for friends and less of a place where users engage in entertainment with random people.

Similar to private communications, group chats are restricted to members who are at least 15 years old. TikTok claims to have strengthened security protocols to safeguard teenagers ranging from 16 to 17.

A mutual follower is the sole way for anyone, including teenagers, to be added to a group chat. Teens who receive an invitation to join a group chat are not permitted to accept it unless at least one of their mutual friends is also a member. Additionally, TikTok requires teens who start group chats to assess and authorize new members.

By pressing the “Chat” button at the top of your inbox and choosing “More options,” you may start a group conversation. After that, you may click “Start group chat” after choosing which friends you wish to add to the group. You can tap on an invite and select “Join group” to join an already-existing group chat.

Additionally, TikTok revealed that bespoke stickers are now available in direct messages. According to the firm, users may create and upload their unique stickers for everyone to use, making it an enjoyable chat option.
