TikTok Launches “Security Checkup” Tool to Protect User Accounts

Even if TikTok’s future is still up in the air, the app keeps adding new features. The most recent is Security Checkup, a centralized dashboard that helps you safeguard your account. This is a new feature that was introduced on Monday.

TikTok announced the launch of a new tool called “Security Checkup,” which enables users to easily evaluate and alter the security settings of their accounts from a single page. The capability is comparable to Security Checkup capabilities provided by Internet search engine giant Google and TikTok competitor Instagram.

By choosing “Settings and privacy” to locate the path from the user’s profile and then clicking “Security and permissions,” users may access the new tool. Setting up a passkey, turning on two-factor authentication, enabling biometric login options like face recognition, and linking a phone number and email address to ensure you have a backup login method are all made simple with Security Checkup.

Users may navigate the social network’s security features step-by-step with the help of Security Checkup. To keep their accounts safer, the tool advises users to activate additional security safeguards.

To make sure they have a backup login option in case they lose access to their account, users may link their email address and phone number to the app. To further security when accessing their accounts from a different device, users can also turn on two-step verification.

Furthermore, Security Checkup emphasizes how crucial it is to often verify which devices are linked to the account and to delete those that are unidentified or no longer in use. For a quick and safe login process, the tool will also advise customers to use device-based authentication techniques like Face ID or Touch Unlock.

Additionally, you may view which devices are linked to your account and remove access to those that you no longer use or don’t recognize. You may evaluate any peculiarities here, and TikTok will report any suspicious activity it finds on your account.

Similar functionalities have already been introduced by other significant platforms. For example, back in 2021, Instagram launched a feature that is also known as Security Checkup. Nevertheless, it’s better late than never to provide useful features, particularly those that aid in account security.

According to TikTok, it actively looks for odd activity and highlights it for users to check in the “Security and permissions” settings.

The introduction of the new tool coincides with uncertainty about TikTok’s future in the United States, as President Donald Trump in January extended the deadline for the TikTok ban by 75 days. The firm has been adding new features to its app, such as adolescent safety safeguards, and modernizing its desktop interface to compete with YouTube, despite the uncertainties.
