Truecaller, a top global platform for caller ID and call blocking apps, has introduced AI-powered Message IDs, a service that helps users identify crucial SMS messages in a cluttered inbox.
On Monday, Truecaller unveiled a new feature designed to help users weed out real communications from an inbox that is getting more and more junk. Message IDs use artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse the SMS inbox and find messages from certified organizations, such as delivery updates, ticket booking status, OTPs, and more. These communications appear in the inbox with a green checkmark, according to Truecaller.
The Features of AI-Powered Message IDs introduced are;
- AI-Powered Message Recognition
This tool securely examines SMS texts on the user’s device using Large Language Models (LLMs) and sophisticated artificial intelligence. It identifies important communications including payment alerts, airline schedules, delivery statuses, bank notifications, and OTPs. According to the business, it extracts and shows important information so that users may respond quickly.
According to Truecaller, Message IDs have been implemented in 30 countries, including India. This function uses large language models (LLMs) and artificial intelligence (AI) to search the SMS inbox on-device and find critical business messages. The business emphasizes that on-device processing ensures user data security.
- Accessibility for All
All users, not just Premium subscribers or English-speaking users, can use the feature. Message IDs serve a variety of purposes, whether the user is in Delhi, Nairobi, or London, and whether the texts are in Tamil, and Spanish are among the international and Indian languages or another language that are supported when it is first presented. According to the business, in order to deliver real-time or get immediate notifications for important messages/warnings, users need to provide two permissions: Read SMS and Display Over Other Apps.
- Messages with a Green Tick for Trust
To strengthen security even more, Truecaller created and offers the Green Message IDs, which are shown by a confirmed checkmark, to combat bogus SMS. This communicates that the message came from a legitimate, confirmed organization, improving user confidence.
The Green Message IDs implementation is to distinguish genuine messages from fraudulent or fake messages. These are marked with a checkmark to verify that the message was received from a verified and authentic company. This comprises notifications from flight itineraries, bank alerts, OTPs, delivery updates, and payment reminders.
- Wide-Ranging Message Recognition
The function recognizes a wide range of significant texts, including unconventional informational messages, in addition to common transactional messages like OTPs or delivery updates. Regardless of the message’s structure or category, Truecaller pointed out that this guarantees users never miss important notifications.
Apart from the aforementioned, Truecaller has the ability to identify and highlight additional significant messages, even if they don’t fit within the traditional SMS categorization. Using artificial intelligence, message IDs also emphasize the most crucial information in messages so that the user may act quickly. It has the tag “AI generated summary” and is displayed above the original text.
The launch of Truecaller’s AI-powered Message IDs expands on the recent inclusion of API support for iPhone, which makes it possible for Apple devices to automatically prevent spam calls and identify callers in real time. This brings the iOS version of the app in pace with its Android equivalent, which has offered the aforementioned functionality for years now.
The initiative demonstrates Truecaller’s dedication to improving user experience through intelligent solutions. “With AI in Message IDs, they are giving users a better way to manage SMS communication. It’s about making messaging clearer, safer, and more useful,” said John Joseph, Product Director, Insights at Truecaller.
