On Monday, Truecaller beefed up its security feature by unveiling a new feature that provides enhanced security for the user’s whole family. A new tool called Family Protection from Truecaller which enables users to form a trusted family group of up to five individuals (friends, family, or co-workers) and then jointly control the blocklist by sharing fraud and scam call protection and other features. The group’s safety settings can be managed by a designated “Family Admin.”
According to the Stockholm-based company, the feature’s caller ID and spam-blocking platform, is intended for less tech-savvy family members, who can profit if those who are familiar with the technology take care of the technical aspects. On Android, the app provides certain more functionality through admin control, and if a user chooses the Family Premium membership, even more features will be available as this will be enabled through subscription.
The new function was unveiled and explained in a newsroom piece. There is no additional software that customers need to download because Family Protection is integrated inside the app. As long as each members of the family has the application installed on their devices, the ability of the feature will work perfect well on their smartphones. The feature was made accessible in Chile, Kenya, Malaysia, and Sweden as part of its original release. In the first quarter of 2026, Truecaller plans to extend to other areas, including India.
Users can add up to five members to a trusted family group after Family Protection is enabled. Users can also add acquaintances and co-workers instead of just the family. Each member of this group will have access to common tools for defending against scam calls. In addition, one user will assume the role of the “Family Admin,” with the ability to control blocklists, set protection levels, and determine how unsolicited calls are handled.
The Family Protection function offers a common defence against changing fraud strategies. A group management where an administrator can establish a group of up to five users, control a shared block list, and define a group-wide protection level (Off, Basic, or Max). The new feature also includes a remote intervention (Android only) where a member is on a potentially fraudulent call, the Family Admin can remotely end the call on the member’s behalf and receive real-time alerts, for status updates (Android only), the admins can also view users’ current status signals, including availability, phone activities (such as driving or walking), and battery level and then lastly for the privacy feature that comes with the Family Protection plan, Truecaller highlights that only information required for the safety and status features is provided with user consent; personal information, such as call history for non-spam calls, SMS, or location data, is never shared with the admin or other members.
Real-time assistance tools will also be available to the admin on the Android app. They will also be able to remotely cease scam calls and receive notifications whenever any family member receives one. Admins can also view real-time indicators like battery level, phone activity, and availability.
Every Truecaller user can access the essential Family Protection tools for free. Users can upgrade to the premium Truecaller Premium Family plan, which offers premium advantages to all five members for increased protection. These benefits include:
- A non-ad experience
- An automated rejection of high-risk numbers and sophisticated spam blocking
- Availability of tools like “who viewed my profile” and “incognito mode”
Truecaller claimed that in addition to enhancing customers’ defence against fraudulent calls, the function will stimulate income and sustained engagement. The Truecaller Premium Family plan is available to consumers who want extra tools and an ad-free experience. Among other things, it provides sophisticated spam prevention and automatic rejection of high-risk numbers.
