After 14 years of being in service, Tumblr is added to the list of platforms that create an extra avenue for its writers to make more money. Creators on Tumblr can now earn extra cash via a monthly subscription for doing the same job.

As a modern blogging platform, Tumblr does not think it is too late to empower its writers with an extra source of income via a new feature called “Post Plus”. This paywall scheme for writers is designed as a monthly subscription that cost according to Tumblr’s designated charges.

Tumblr released Post Plus exclusively for its writers — still, this feature is currently limited in a beta version for selected creators. The price tag to subscribe ranges from $3.99, $5.99, to $9.99 per month — this subscription validates a reader to access any preferred blog post.

For context, Post Plus serves as a means for creators to charge dimes for the articles they have published. This feature has reportedly featured on other blogging platforms as well, such as Substack. While other blogging platforms such as Medium, Reddit, Slashdot, etc. are yet to monetize their blog media.

It is worth noting this charge is exclusive for published content, and emailed newsletters are not involved. Since the blogging platform is not as responsive as the time it hit the limelight it doesn’t regard its newsletter as worth a dime.

Overtime, Tumblr has accounted for over 67.7 million active users, until it got acquired by the likes of Yahoo and Verizon. In 2019, WordPress parent company Automattic acquired the fictitious blog media — Post Plus happens to be the first upgrade Automattic is adding to Tumblr.

Other monetized blog platform happens to be more lucrative, unlike Tumblr that is known for publishing fictitious information. Still, Post Plus is expedited to retain existing writers as well as attracting potential writers to blog with Tumblr.

According to the 14 years old blog media, they own 5% of a writer’s earnings, unlike other blog media that cut 10% off subscription fees.

Tumblr intends to roll out an unlimited version of this feature before the year runs out which depicts Post Plus is still in its testing phase. This service will be available for all OS platforms such as iOS, desktop, and Android.
