Twitter Adds New Feature That Allows Users Tip Creators With Ethereum

Creators can now add their Ethereum address as part of new Twitter tipping options, expanding its tipping reach that was hitherto available to only Bitcoin users.

The ‘tip jar’ feature on the microblogging platform which was introduced in May 2021, allows users to earn money from their followers, giving creators the leverage to directly monetize their Twitter communities.

Also, by late January 2021, registered users on ‘Twitter Blue’, the premium service of the social media giant  were given the opportunity to showcase their precious non-fungible tokens (NFT’s) as profile pictures, with the local media reporting that adult-oriented content subscription platform, ‘OnlyFans’ earlier this week took a cue from Twitter by allowing creators to show off their NFTs.

It should be noted that Jack Dorsey, one of Twitter Founders and erstwhile CEO, a vocal Bitcoin advocate, has publicly derided the support of Ethereum, with the Block Inc Founder frequently picking fights with its community.

TechBooky had last year reported that Jack Dorsey stepped down his role as Twitter CEO, handing over reins to ex-CTO, Parag Agrawal, with the Indian-American appearing to be more open-minded about alternative cryptocurrencies than his predecessor.

Parag appears to have reduced the monopoly of Bitcoin in Twitter’s space by throwing the adoption of crypto open to all digital currency platforms.

The infusion of Ethereum will offer other people who are not enthusiastic about Bitcoin the opportunity to try other cryptocurrency platforms, some already prefer Ethereum, arguing that the payment service support is more beneficial.

With Barter, Paga, and Paytm appearing to be very beneficial in India, Nigeria, and other countries where mobile payments flourish, the move by Twitter will not only give people more tips but makes it more practical for digital creators to operate in certain countries as  they are aware their audiences can contribute.

Venmo, Wealthsimple Cash, Razorpay, Patreon, GoFundMe, Cash App, and Bandcamp are other available non-crypto Twitter payment platforms and services.

Twitter has with this adoption allowed creators and journalists on its platform receive rewards for their content, while also making it easier for content providers to work remotely with the expansion of the tipping options, effectively promoting the social media goal of monetization.

Users on Twitter can now click on the tip Icon on a Twitter profile to send tips, and Tippers can now find surfing easy with the expansion of options.
