Twitter Announces Spaces Accelerator Program To Pay Creators

Micro-blogging social media platform–Twitter has announced plans to reward creators on its Twitter Spaces. Twitter Spaces creators will receive this reward through a new three-month accelerator program called the Twitter Spaces Spark Program. Twitter made this announcement know through its platform. This creator reward program is reported to be similar to the three-month creator program social network audio-only app Clubhouse proposed in March 2021.

According to the American microblogging and social networking site, the Twitter Spaces Spark Program is designed to “discover and reward” about 150 Spaces creators in several ways. Creators will receive benefits in form of technical, financial, and marketing supports. Twitter has assured that participants who apply would receive a stipend of $2,500 monthly, ad credits of about $500 monthly for promotional purposes on Twitter Spaces, also early access to new Twitter features, support from Twitter’s official social media handles, and “opportunities for prioritized in-app discoverability for well-performing Spaces.”

Eligibility for Twitter Spaces Spark Program however comes with certain criteria participants must meet. Participants can find an elaborate explanation of terms and conditions here. Some of the criteria include:

  • Participants must be 18 years or older
  • Participants must have at least 5,000 or more “active followers”
  • Participants must be located in the US (at least for Twitter’s first phase of the program)
  • Participants must commit to hosting a minimum of two Spaces per week

Comparison between Twitter Spaces Spark Program and Clubhouse’s Creator First program announced in the month of March 2021 have shown obvious signs of slight differences. Clubhouse’s Creator First program is focused on one major thing, which is connecting live audio creators with brands for sponsorships and building their audiences while Twitters’ is focused on “discovering and rewarding” Spaces creators. The reward for Clubhouses’ includes a reward of $5,000 monthly, Twitter’s offers $2,500 monthly — and access to new Twitter features.

Creators from the Clubhouse has expressed love for what the community the audio-only app is creating however report say the company couldn’t keep up its own end of the bargain after the program ended, which is to connect these shows and creators with advertising and sponsorships capable of supporting them after the program ended.

Twitter’s accelerator program seems to have thought through about it and answered the part of the question which says “what comes after,” which can somewhat be a hard problem to solve later on. But it also still leaves creators wondering about the uncertainty that may arise should they jump into new opportunities social media companies are offering. Applications for the Twitter Spaces Spark Program are open until October 22nd, 2021.
