Twitter Spaces hosts will be able to share clips from recordings in new test - The Verge

Micro-blogging network and social platform Twitter is now testing a new feature for its Spaces audio rooms. Recall Twitter also joined the audio space services a while ago which has recorded an amount of success. The new feature has been tested by the company and will now allow a host on Spaces to share a clip of recorded Spaces on their timeline. Currently, the feature is only available to selected Hosts on iOS, while everyone on iOS can see and listen to clips. According to the company, Android and web users will receive this tool soon. The company has also said such clips will live on Twitter for 30 days.

Also, Twitter is only limiting clips to Spaces hosts, for now, plans are said to be in motion to expand this functionality to “everyone on Twitter in the near future,” says Joseph J. Nuñez, spokesperson for Twitter. However, for the sake of having ill-intentioned listener taking a clip and spreading it in a malicious way on Twitter which may be considered easy to do, users will have to wait and see if Twitter expands these tools and how it chooses to prevent the misuse of clips once the feature is available.

Tools like clips have proven to be quite useful on various platforms in the audio space— as it showcases an easier way to share digestible bits of information or content. This can mainly be associated with Twitch — as it permits key or notable moments from the live streams instead of limiting users to scrubbing through an hour-long recording of a stream. Rumours also say that a similar feature is been tested by YouTube, Clubhouse a renowned competition to Spaces in September announced its own version of clips. Another player in the audio space that has clips feature that allows users to share up to 30 seconds of some Prime Video content is Amazon, Slack has joined the league as well with a clips feature that lets users make short audio or video recordings to help people reduce time spent in meetings.
