Micro-blogging platform, Twitter has temporarily suspended Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for posting misleading information about Coronavirus, and will be unable to make use of the Twitter App for 12 hours.

Rep. Greene , a vocal critic of the compulsory wearing of facemask  and usage of vaccines as a means to fight the deadly Covid-19, had on Monday tweeted that the virus was not dangerous for younger people, who were not battling with obesity. Greene also went ahead and tweeted that vaccines should not be required.

Many believed this to be a counter attack on  President Joe Biden remark were he  slammed social media companies for not putting in their best to curb false information about Covid-19 and vaccines.

Her tweet though has not been deleted and is still accessible online but still Twitter has labeled the tweet ‘misleading’.

Twitter had March this year, unveiled its new rules for handling misinformation about Covid-19 which included a strike system.

The rules says that a first strike is issued  with no account level actions, then swiftly  followed by 12-hour suspensions for the second and third strikes .For the fourth violation, there would be a week-long suspension. A fifth strike will automatically lead to a permanent ban from the platform.

Greene, as it depicts was issued her second strike as In January, she got suspended for 12 hours for making false claims about election fraud. But luckily, the rules were not in existence then.

This readily implies that Greene’s account would be in “read-only mode” for 12 hours.

Her controversial statement is not a surprise to many as just last month, she had  apologized for comparing the usage of  Coronavirus mask rules to that of treatment measured out to the Jews in Nazi Germany.

Two of her past posts are now being tagged by Twitter as “misleading’. The content of the two tweets has it that no need of vaccines to curb Covid 19 and also Covid 19 virus is not dangerous as everyone is made to believe especially for people who are aged below 65 and were not even obese.

Ms.Greene was suspended April this year by Twitter but it was later revoked with Twitter apologizing saying it was an automated moderation system mistake.

Ms Greene has responded to her latest suspension saying Silicon Valley firms were on a verge to attack free speech and they were getting support from the White House.

“These Big Tech companies are doing the bidding of the Biden regime to restrict our voices and prevent the spread of any message that isn’t state-approved,” she said in a statement to the New York Times.

President of the United States, Joe Biden had recently called on social media firms to take more action against the spread of false information on their platforms about Coronavirus and vaccines. Accordiing to him,  the battle against this virus can be won when everyone is well informed about its dangers.

“They’re killing people,” Mr Biden told reporters. “The only pandemic we have is among the unvaccinated.”
