It seems that Twitter has caught a digital flu that kept it bed-ridden for a good part of today. While the online platform usually thrives on the buzz of global trending topics and shared media, it has been eerily quiet. As of the time of this report, users have been experiencing difficulties in attaching images and tracing trending topics.
The Guardian reports that users’ access to Twitter through web, mobile, and its API – also known as Application Programming Interface, which is the system used by applications to interact with Twitter services – began facing delays at 8:20am GMT. As a consequence, error messages started flashing on screens stating the network was “over capacity” and plagued by an “internal error”. By 10:00am, a semblance of normalcy was restored as majority of the services returned. However, the company’s image handling and home timelines continued to face disruptions. Consequently, Twitter intermittently failed throughout the day, causing global user frustration.
We remain hopeful that Twitter’s technical team is diligently working to resolve these persistent issues. They have not yet commented on the nature or the cause of the network errors or the estimated timeline for a full recovery. Although such issues are fairly common in the digital realm, the duration and apparent randomness of the problem have startled many in the Twitter community.
Rest assured, we stand just as eager as you to regain our regular dose of Twitter feed. We’ll keep you posted on updates regarding this outage and persisting functionality issues as soon as we have any new information. In the meantime, we hope that Twitter gets well soon from its tech flu. Keep checking back for updates – and perhaps now might be the time to check on that LinkedIn account you’ve been neglecting, as a backup plan for network outages.
