Two New Premium Tiers Coming To X Soon – Musk

Elon Musk made it official last week – X (formerly Twitter) is rolling out two new premium subscription tiers, as previously speculated and hinted in the platform’s code.

According to the owner himself, one of these tiers will come in at a lower cost than the existing $8 per month premium plan. But here’s the catch: it won’t spare you from ads. The other tier, pricier by comparison, will eliminate all ads. As for the current premium plan, it pledges to serve subscribers “half ads.” Musk hasn’t disclosed the specific prices for these upcoming options.

This development follows the recent discovery by @aaronp613 of references to three different premium tiers hidden in X’s code. Additionally, Bloomberg reported that the company has been testing multiple paid plans, a move aimed at boosting revenue.

Two new tiers of X Premium subscriptions launching soon.

One is lower cost with all features, but no reduction in ads, and the other is more expensive, but has no ads.

Worth noting is Meta’s contemplation of an ad-free tier, a response to an EU Court ruling that users should have the choice of an ad-free experience if they refuse data processing consent. TikTok has also recently confirmed its own testing of an ad-free tier. Whether X’s decision is linked to the EU Court ruling remains uncertain.

Elon Musk and his team are exploring novel strategies to boost X’s income. Just this week, they introduced a $1 per year plan for new users in New Zealand and the Philippines. This budget-friendly plan grants users essential functionalities like posting, liking, and reposting. The move’s primary goal is to curb bot activity on the platform, rather than serving as a significant source of profit.

Earlier this month, Reuters reported a consistent drop in ad revenue since Musk’s takeover. Therefore, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the company is diversifying its revenue streams with these subscription options.

While X is aiming to lure advertisers, having brought former NBCU executive Linda Yaccarino on board as CEO, it’s also keen on promoting favorable metrics. According to Yaccarino, X boasts approximately 245 million daily active users and facilitates 500 million daily posts.
