The UK government has launched a new service called Fuel Finder, designed to make retail fuel prices and forecourt details available for use in third-party apps and websites. The goal is to help drivers compare prices and find cheaper fuel nearby.
According to guidance published on GOV.UK, the service lets developers and organisations access the latest data in multiple ways, including downloadable CSV files and a public API.
How Fuel Finder data can be accessed
- Download a CSV: A CSV file containing current prices and forecourt details is available and is updated twice a day.
- Email subscription: Users can subscribe to receive a link to the latest CSV when it’s published.
- Public API: The data can be integrated directly into tools and services via a REST-style API.
The GOV.UK page also notes that if you “just need fuel prices,” you can find them through participating third-party apps and websites using the dataset.
Fuel Finder’s API follows REST principles, with resources exposed via stable URLs mapped to standard HTTP methods. The guidance says data can be read by making simple GET requests to relevant resource URLs.
Access requires authentication. The Fuel Finder API supports OAuth 2.0 using the client credentials flow.
For support, GOV.UK directs users to contact the Fuel Finder Team if they have problems with the service.
