Abstract

This research assesses the utility of ultra-wideband radar using the radar cross-section (RCS) as a key metric. The study delves into the correlation between RCS, frequency, and aspect angles. The crux of the analysis involves assessing ultra-wideband radar performance using the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), specifically evaluating how the RCS factors in the impact of the aspect angle on the SNR.

The project develops a framework for modelling an optical radar system. In this, the SNR performance is measured as the target transverses a selected angle path from 0 to 270 degrees, leveraging existing mathematical formulas.

The study generated SNR-aspect results related to two diverse scatterers, thoroughly dissected in the ensuing sections of the research. The applications derived from the research outcomes have potential implementation in the areas of cabin cruiser detection and automobile radar systems.

Keywords: Ultra-wideband, radar, radar cross section, aspect angle, SNR, range.
