US President To Host CEOs Across The Tech, Finance, And Energy For Security Summit At The White House

The United States President – Joe Biden will meet with CEOs and top executives across the tech, education, finance, and energy on Wednesday for the Security Summit at the White House. The Summit will revolve around discussions about how to mitigate the malignant effects of cybersecurity threats and attacks.

The US has been the epicenter of a numerous amount of cyber attacks that have affected both the public and private sectors, causing worry and a state of urgency to deal with this problem. Some notable attacks that have taken the US by surprise include an attack on Software company SolarWinds; this attack had a huge impact on various government agencies. Another notable attack is the Colonial Pipeline Hack which led to a gas shortage in some parts of the US.

The President will be discussing with CEOs and executives from the aforementioned industries how the issue of cyber threats can be adequately dealt with. President Joe Biden is meeting with executives from companies like Amazon, Apple, Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, PG&E, etc. This information was provided by a Senior Administration Officer to reporters on Tuesday. Also present will be members of the President’s cabinet and the country’s security team.

According to a list by CNBC, the executives that will be present include;

ADP’s CEO Carlos Rodriguez, Tim Cook from Apple, Amazon’s latest CEO Andy Jassy, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, Arvind Krishna from IBM, and Sundar Pichai from Google and Alphabet, all from the Tech sector.

From the Financial Services sector, Bank of America’s Brian Moynihan will be present, JP Morgan Chase’s CEO Jamie Dimon, US Bancorp’s CEO Andrew Cecere and Thasunda Duckett from TIAA will all be there as well.

From the Energy and Water sector, the following CEOs will be present – Southern Company’s CEO Tom Fanning, American Water’s CEO Walter Lynch, Lynn Good from Duke Energy, Patti Poppe from PG&E, Williams’ Alan Armstrong, and SJW Group’s Eric Thornburg.

The Insurance sector will see Coalition’s CEO Joshua Motta, Resilience CEO Vishaal Hariprasad, Travelers’ CEO Alan Schnitzer, and Greg Hendrick from Vantage Group. The Education sector will have the following CEOs Code.org CEO Hadi Partovi, Girls Who Code CEO Tarika Barrett, Tougaloo College President Dr. Carmen Walters, University of Texas System Chancellor JB Milliken, and Whatcom Community College President Dr. Kathi Hiyane-Brown.

The sessions will be divided into three. In one of the sessions, a discussion about “Critical Infrastructure Resilience” will be led by the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm. The second section will be on “Building Enduring Cybersecurity” and will be led by Department of Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Small Business Administrator Isabel Guzman. The last part of the discussion will be about the “Cybersecurity Workforce” and the discussion will be led by National Cyber Director Chris Inglis.
