If you’re currently employed but are also hoping to find a better job, the last person you’d want finding out is your current boss or a potentially envious colleague. Traditionally, platforms like LinkedIn which greatly facilitate connections between job-seekers and recruiters could inadvertently expose your intent due to the public nature of interactions. However, LinkedIn has now crafted a solution that enables you to indicate your job-seeking status in a confidential manner to recruiters.

LinkedIn has introduced a novel feature named Open Candidates. This service allows you to discreetly inform recruiters about your intention of seeking a new job. In a blog post, LinkedIn explained how you can specify your preferred company types and roles. This significantly simplifies the job hunting process, making it effortless for the hundreds of thousands of recruiters who utilize LinkedIn to unearth exceptional talent.

The details provided will only be accessible to recruiters affiliated with other companies. Importantly, these recruiters must subscribe to LinkedIn’s premium service, which comes with an annual fee of $9,000. The motivation behind this feature is for users to add a ‘job-seeking signal’ to their profiles, visible strictly to such authorized recruiters.

The Open Candidates service has been rigorously tested in a beta format for several months and has already been utilized by over 1 million users. Alongside this feature, LinkedIn has been busy either revamping existing or launching new products. They recently unveiled LinkedIn Learning, a web-based training resource for individual and organizational development.

As of now, Open Candidates is accessible to users based in the U.S, U.K., Canada, and Australia. It’s available on both the desktop and mobile web versions and is expected to roll out globally in the near future. Explore more about this feature in the attached video below.

Beyond easing the job hunt for you, this innovative tool also serves recruiters by presenting a pool of professionals who are open to new opportunities, streamlining their search for the perfect candidate.
