One of the many new features and improvements that WhatsApp is releasing is one that uses AI to recommend replies based on your conversations. Aside from the introduction of multiple accounts on iOS devices, WhatsApp is bringing more features to its app to make the use of the application an easy one for every user regardless of the kind of device the user uses. The messaging app owned by Meta is also introducing new features, such as the option to use Meta AI to edit photographs and a new approach to free up space.
WhatsApp’s Writing Help feature may now generate suggested responses depending on the context of your ongoing discussions.
The app’s addition to its “Writing Help” is one feature, which assists users in drafting messages seamlessly, that is most noteworthy. Since its inception with the most recent version of this technology, which was first released in August of last year, Writing Help has already assisted customers with rewording, rephrasing, proofreading, and tone adjustments of their own typed messages to suit the users’ minds and enabled the AI to evaluate incoming communications and produce comprehensive response drafts. The Meta-owned business stated in a blog post earlier today that this most recent version will assist users in getting their message “just right” each time DMs are concerned with the other party.
Instead of using third-party technologies like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, or Grok, Meta probably wants users to write messages using its in-app technology. The shift to this direction was as a result of OpenAI discontinuing the use of ChatGPT on WhatsApp in January this year. Naturally, not everyone will want to utilize this new function because people probably prefer real, intimate chats with friends and family over communications generated by artificial intelligence. (Writing an email with AI is one thing; messaging the family group chat is quite another!)
Even if customers use Meta’s AI, Writing Help, the company says the conversations are confidential.
In order to utilize the AI feature, users must first press the chat bar, choose the stickers icon in the text field, and then tap the pencil with sparkledust icon.
In terms of making room, WhatsApp can now assist users in locating and removing huge files right within any chat. This implies that users don’t need to delete entire discussions in order to remove what they don’t need. When clearing a chat, for example, they could decide to preserve the discussion history while simply deleting media files.
Additionally, the business said that users may now immediately edit photographs in a chat using Meta AI. This will enable users to apply a new style, alter the backdrop, or eliminate anything obtrusive from an image.
Furthermore, WhatsApp now allows users to transfer chat history both inside the same platform and from iOS to Android.
WhatsApp now supports two accounts on iOS, matching Android’s existing capability. Sticker suggestions now appear as you type emojis. The features are rolling out now and will be available to all users soon, according to WhatsApp.
As of late March 2026, customers in the US and a few other countries will mostly be able to access the service in English. Throughout the year, support for more languages, such as Spanish, Portuguese, and Indonesian, is anticipated to grow worldwide.
The AI-Generated drafting features comes with the following:
- Contextual suggestions: The analyser reviews recent chats to propose relevant replies.
- Tone customization: The user chooses from a styles list like professional, funny, supportive, or polite.
- Privacy protections: For private purposes that are end-to-end, processing ensures Meta cannot read messages or suggestions.
- User control: By default, users have the privilege to review, edit, or reject drafts before sending.
To use the feature, users may enable the “Writing Help” feature by navigating to Settings > Chats > Private Processing, then proceed to opening a conversation with a friend or acquaintance by tapping the sticker icon followed by the pencil with sparkles icon, and after a few messages have been exchanged, AI-generated reply suggestions will appear for the user to choose from.
WhatsApp has advised that all its users should watch out for the next update on their device, which will introduce this feature to everyone globally.
