Have you ever entered a new group chat and, without the context of previous discussions, felt completely lost? Group Message History is a WhatsApp update that is being released today, which is one of WhatsApp’s most desired and requested features which is now present in the recent version.
In order to catch up, users will now be able to view messages from before they joined the group.
When someone joins a group on WhatsApp, they can only view the messages sent since they joined. Because there is no way to catch up on what has already been discussed, joining a busy group can be perplexing.
These days, when a new user joins a group, other members have the option to give them recent messages so they can catch up.
Message history is not automatically shared, according to Meta. Instead, it is a necessary step when a new person joins the discussion.
Nevertheless, administrators will also have the choice to completely disable Group Message History if they so choose a useful feature for very delicate discussions.
Someone has to take the initiative to send the new hire those previous messages because the current behaviour will continue to be the norm. Administrators will have the ability to turn off the setting for a specific group.
They will then have the choice to forward 25 to 100 of the most recent messages. Everyone in the group is alerted whenever that occurs, and the messages display differently to indicate that they have been forwarded.
The company emphasised that those messages are still encrypted from beginning to end, just like all WhatsApp messages.
Everyone in the group receives a notification when history is shared, and these historical communications are visibly different from ordinary live chat.
Although they always have the option to share history when adding new members, administrators can completely stop this feature for their groups.
With the most recent iterations of the app, the feature is currently being progressively made available to users globally.
With no more screenshots and needless message forwarding, WhatsApp claimed that the new feature was a “quicker, more private way to keep conversations flowing.”
This addition comes after three other new group chat features member tags, text stickers, and event reminders were introduced last month.
