A long time expectation has now find its way into a test phase as Whatsapp users should anticipate that there will launch be a feature that would let users to set up a username PIN and limit spam messages and notifications. Testing the ability to reserve usernames on its Android app appears to have brought the instant messaging service one step closer to its launch. Before the complete username functionality is made publicly available, users will be able to reserve their favourite usernames, according to a feature tracker.
The ability to reserve usernames was observed in WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.25.28.12, which has been identified as a suitable update, according to feature tracker reports via WABetaInfo. The Meta Platforms-owned instant messaging client is reportedly working on it for distribution in a later app version, albeit it isn’t currently ready.
The Profile tab in WhatsApp settings will have a Username name option, as shown in the screenshot above. This feature will allow users to reserve their usernames.
It is believed that this function is a lead step to private messaging. WhatsApp’s claims that it introduction of usernames will help to prevent spam and unsolicited messages. A username key option is reportedly included, which will restrict who can reach you and cut down on unnecessary messages with interactions. WhatsApp will only allow anyone with a key and your username to message you.
Reserving usernames will enable users to select their preferred usernames and lower the possibility that they will be stolen by someone else before the feature ever reaches their devices, resulting in a fair rollout because features are pushed out gradually.
WABetaInfo states that there will be restriction rules on how the username can be set up. To prevent someone from being mistaken for an official website entity, for instance, usernames cannot start with “www.” Furthermore, there must be at least one letter in the username. Certain characters, like underscores, periods, and digits 0–9, may be included.
The new feature to reserve a username is still in the testing stage, according to WABetaInfo, and even beta testers who have registered through the Google Play Beta program are not allowed to use it. In the upcoming weeks, it may be made available to a larger public for testing.
Even beta testers on the Google Play Beta Program are not yet able to use the username reservation feature, which is currently in the development stage. It is anticipated to be released gradually over the next few weeks, similar to the majority of WhatsApp upgrades.
With careful performance monitoring, Meta-owned WhatsApp intends to roll out the complete username feature gradually.
In the near future, a larger audience will be able to use the reservation system.
The username reservation function is expected to emerge before the full username system in the near future, however the precise launch date is still unknown.
